June Zoom Meeting (Thursday, June 4th from 7-9 pm)

Since there are still restrictions on group meetings in public, we will hold our June meeting via Zoom on Thursday June 4th from 7-9 pm; link is below.  Among other club business topics we will discuss changes to the club schedule due to the lockdown disruption of spring climbing.

Our speaker this month is Emily Ferrall, Wildlife Conservation Technician, Wildlife Resources Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GADNR).

Emily will both educate us on Georgia bats and their habitats and explain how we climbers can help the GADNR with some citizen bat science.  Some Georgia bats use rock crevices and cracks, like the type rock climbers often encounter, for roosting.  The GADNR does not have the resources to climb every rock or hillside in search of these bats, so they are hoping we can help them!  Having climbers report GA bat sightings to the GADNR is a citizen science opportunity, like Colorado has done.

June Climbing Trip (now June 13th to Upper Leda)

We have decided restrictions have been loosened enough we can hold a club climbing trip.  We encourage members to observe social distancing guidelines, but leave it up to the individual to decide what is right for them while respecting others.  The destination and date have been changed to Upper Leda on June 13th.  Note, the 6:30 a.m. early trip time, allowing more climbing before the afternoon heat.  With shorter climbs and more shade, this should help ease the transition back into climbing.

Leda has a great variety of sport climbs with some trad also available. There are also a wide range of grades to try out. The crag is on private land and you will have to go to the Montlake Golf Course club house to sign a waiver and pay the day-use fee of $8.75 per climber.

Date/Time: June 13, 6:30 am
