Join us next Saturday, September 21 at Jamestown, AL for our annual trail day. In conjunction with the Southeastern Climbers Coalition, we’ll be working to beat back the weeds and prepare the trails at Jamestown for cooler fall weather.
We plan to get an early start at 8:00am Eastern time, which by my calculations works out to be 7:00am Central time. For those coming from Atlanta, we plan to carpool from the Marietta park and ride at 6:15am Saturday morning.
Be sure to bring clothing and equipment appropriate for trail work: long pants, closed-toe shoes, and gloves are all essential. If you feel like bringing some basic hand tools; loppers, hand saws, machetes, mattocks and shovels can all come in handy. If you have a chainsaw and you’re willing to bring the equipment to run it safely for the morning, a couple of those might not go unused. Also remember to bring water and snacks. Stay hydrated!
By starting early we hope to have all the heavy labor knocked out before it gets too warm. Then our trail day coordinator and grill master Gary will cook up a complimentary lunch for all in attendance. We’ll be raffling off some fun goodies. This year we even have a piece of gear autographed by a famous climber. You’ll have to show up to find out who!
After lunch we’ll all head back up the hill to climb and shake the cobwebs off of some of those Jamestown classics. So don’t forget to bring your climbing gear! If you’re new to trad, or just new to the area, this is an excellent opportunity to learn what Jamestown has to offer.
