This weekend is our fall trip to Linville Gorge. Located in the Pisgah National Forest near Morganton, NC, Linville Gorge offers multi-pitch climbing on quartzite with spectacular views.

Folks will be leaving at different times based on their schedules, so everyone should make their own carpool arrangements. If you’re looking for a ride, you can always post on the Yahoo group and see if anyone else is headed up at the same time.

We will be camping at the Table Rock area in Linville Gorge. We have contacted the rangers and verified that camping permits will not be needed. The Table Rock camping area has trash cans and enclosed pit toilets. There is no running water, so be sure to bring all the water and food you will need for the weekend. DO NOT camp in the picnic areas near the parking lot, as this is prohibited. If you continue up the trail past the bathrooms to the top of the rise, there is plenty of camping along the right side of the trail. I recommend that we try to set up at the last spot on the right. It’s a little bit more of a walk, but that site is well-suited for large groups.

The weather forecast for this weekend looks great. But keep in mind that this is the mountains. Be sure to bring a wind/rain jacket, and enough clothes to stay warm when things get chilly. Walk-off descents are preferred for many of the climbs, so bringing a small pack which you can wear while climbing is also very helpful.
